Tubing Layout For DIY Sprinkler Systems
When planning your zone and tubing layout some consideration should be given to simplifying the layout to ensure the least number of changes in direction for the tubing to ensure minimal flow and pressure loss which is encountered whenever you add additional fittings to a tubing layout. Here are our 2 proposed tubing layouts for the examples we have created in the tutorial: 4 Zone Layout with Drip Zone
2 Zone Layout
Drip Zones: Prior to Jumping ahead, let’s revisit our 4 Zone example to explore what is required for the Drip Zone. Drip zones require a reduction in pressure and a filter at some point after the Solenoid, or Hose End Timer. In our example, we will place the Filter and Regulator close to the Garden as our take off point. See illustration below for a sample of parts needed for both Standard Irrigation Tubing and Blu-Lock Tubing from Hydrorain. Standard Irrigation Tubing and Insert Fittings Installation using Standard Insert Fitting A – ¾” or 1” Poly Tubing B – Insert x Female Pip Thread fitting C – ¾” Male Pipe Thread Filter D – ¾” Pipe Thread Pressure Regulator E – ¾” Pipe Thread Female Adapter F – ¾” Pipe Thread Adapter and 17mm Drip Emitter Tubing
Blu-Lock Tubing and Fittings A – ¾” or 1” Blu Lock Tubing B – Insert x Female Pip Thread fitting
C – ¾” Male Pipe Thread Filter D – ¾” Pipe Thread Pressure Regulator E – ¾” Pipe Thread Female Adapter E – ¾” Pipe Thread Adapter and 17mm Drip Emitter Tubing Drip Zone Location
Most of the planning is now completed and we can move on to choosing our components and putting together our system!
