Multi-Use Systems

Multi-Use Systems

For Multi-Use Systems we recommend the separating of the system into zones dedicated to the respective type of irrigation. You are not limited to only using the irrigation applications that are detailed below; these are a random selection of some of the more common irrigation styles. This is to illustrate the variability of gardening applications that can be achieved on one property using multi-zone timers or controllers.

We recommend using a 4-zone timer and the corresponding water source connections to connect to each zone. Below is a depiction of the water source connection with the B-hyve 4 Zone Timer, filter, pressure regulator, vacuum breaker (optional), and hose adapter.

Below is a basic layout for someone who is looking to irrigate their Raised Beds, Flower beds and Berries. This layout uses solid drip tubing, drip emitter tubing (1/4" in raised beds, and techline for permanent row crops/berries), and drip tape for the seasonal plants.

Raised Beds

Our Drip Irrigation Kits for Raised Bed Gardening will supply you with complete solutions for all configurations of Raised Beds and Organic Vegetable Gardens. Raised Bed Kits are excellent for Cedar Box Planters.

Raised Bed Gardens can be watered a variety of ways using any combinations of Drip Tape, Drip Emitter Tubing, and Emitters or Sprayers. See our Kit Selection for sample layouts for Raised Beds.

Techline - For Permanent Plants (Eg. Berries)

Dripline a.k.a. Soaker Hose or Drip Emitter Tubing can be used for both above surface and sub-surface applications. Although commonly installed with Irrigation Systems for Shrub Beds, and Vegetable Gardens, Dripline can also be effective for sub-surface watering of lawns.

DripTape - For Seasonal Row Crops (Ex. Vegetables)

Drip Irrigation using a Drip tape irrigation system is perfect for row crops and organic vegetable gardens.  It is also the most economical method of watering these types of crops - it is an annual product so it will last 1 or 2 seasons. Drip tape is a thin walled tubing, so this drip tape irrigation system is designed to operate at a much lower pressure and requires proper filtration. Drip tape irrigation fittings are used exclusively with drip tape and are designed to give you various connection options.

NOTE: The last zone is not utilized in this layout. At Irrigation Direct Canada, we believe in leaving room for growth and expansion. It is easier to leave watering capacity at the beginning than it is to try to find a way to split zones in the future. Leaving one zone open also gives homeowners somewhere to attach their garden hose to.
